Apple on Tuesday unveiled a new iPhone that will use USB-C charger ports.

Apple just pulled the plug on its decade-old “Lightning” port as the tech giant revealed its new iPhone lineup, all of which came with USB-C charging ports.

The newly unveiled iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus feature a color-infused back glass and a contoured aluminum frame. They bring major camera improvements, including a 48MP Main camera and 2x Telephoto for more photography choices. Portrait shots are also improved, with Apple touting better performance in low-light situations. Apple is also doubling down on safety features as it now boasts its Roadside Assistance via satellite, ideal for off-the-grid situations.

The new iPhones are powered by the A16 Bionic chip and will be available in five striking colors: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black, on September 22.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature aerospace-grade titanium design, a 48MP Main camera, and a new 5x Telephoto camera on the Pro Max for pro-level photography. A17 Pro chip ensures elite gaming and performance. USB‑C with USB 3 speeds and Roadside Assistance via satellite are onboard.

They come in four finishes: black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium, with pre-orders opening on September 15, and general availability on September 22.

This transition to USB-C comes as the European Union passed legislation that requires all devices to be compatible with a USB Type-C charging port by late 2024 to reduce electronic waste. (GFB)
