Vietnam’s First-Ever Baby Born from Frozen Ovum

Vietnam’s first-ever frozen ovum baby was born in late March 2017, according to the country’s Post Office Hospital on Wednesday.

With her ovum stored in ice, the 28-year-old Vietnamese mother had her baby girl born at 3.3 kilograms in weight, reported the state-run television VTV online newspaper on Wednesday.

According to the hospital’s Head of Assisted Productive Center Nguyen Thi Nha, the successful case creates a favorable foundation for use of the technology in the future.

“The ovum-freezing method will help to secure women’s motherhood opportunity in several cases including cancer chemotherapy,” said Nha. (PNA/xinhua)
