Tips for Dark Skin

Published

on

It’s sad that a number of Pinay women lean on whitening products. Even if I have a fair complexion, I really admire the golden and olive tones Filipina women have. I dislike the fact that there are dozens of local skin care brands that promote whitening. This leads to some women being intimidated with makeup because they think that only fair-skinned ladies will benefit from it.

Every woman should embrace what they’re born with! According to research, dark skin is better than the fair skin in medical terms as it is healthier.

Due to more pigment, dark skin can withstand the exposure to sun rays and its heat. In makeup application however, women with dark skin tone need to be very careful with their choices. All types of makeup products will not embrace dark skin tone. Wrong makeup products can make one look washed out or it may show up on darker skin. Tips:

1. Eyeliners and eyeshadow: Bright blues and turquoises look amazing on dark skin! Gold and bronze shades also work in general with regards to makeup on these women since these highlight the person’s features. This is mossy especially when these women have dark hair. If one has a colored ‘do, warm tones on the skin work as well.

2. Lips: You can use clear gloss since again, you would want to highlight your features. When using lipstick, try creamier textures and avoid matte shades. Deeper browns, all metallic shades, pink, deeper peach tones, even bright fuchia, all reds (but if your skin has a more golden-yellow tone, try to avoid orange reds), deep eggplant and purple are excellent choices on dark skin.

3. Blush and bronzers: Reds (including bright fuchsia), wines and orange color blushes look great on dark skin. The more color you have, the deeper or brighter blush color you’ll need. You can use deeper bronzer colors, gold and bronze mixed colors since the light reflecting properties of these products look very natural on dark skin.

4. Foundation, powder and concealer: Be patient and take your time to find the right products for you. Remember to test these products on your jawline and if the shade disappears, it’s your perfect match. Don’t be afraid to ask the assistance of the makeup consultant. Also be religious in applying moisturizer before you do makeup.
