No More Touch With Leap Motion Gesture Controller

Published

on

Leap Motion is the pint-sized technology that can turn an average desktop or laptop into a gesture-controlled computer.  It tracks all 10 fingers up to 1/100th of a millimeter. It’s up to 200 times more sensitive than existing motion-control technology. So you can do everything without touching anything. It’s the tiny device that will change the way you use technology.

It works with what you already have. The Leap Motion Controller will change the way you work without changing what already works for you. So it doesn’t replace your keyboard, mouse, stylus, or trackpad. It works with them, and without special adapters.

The Leap Motion Controller is sleek, light, and tiny (3″ long). It uses an optical system that tracks your fingers with infrared LEDs and cameras in a way unlike any other motion control tech. Leap Motion only uses one to two percent of a CPU’s capabilities to work.

Using the Leap is easy, simply connect it to your computer via USB and install Leap’s software, wave your hand in the space above the sensor, and it starts tracking any finger pointing at the screen. Whether we were slicing watermelons in a Fruit Ninja demo or drawing minuscule curlicues in a 3D-drawing app, the Leap followed our phalanges’ every move on all three axes.

Leap Motion, the highly anticipated motion control sensor, for $79.99, will ship July 22, rather than its previously announced date of May. CEO Michael Buckwald explained that 600,000 devices are ready to go, but explained that “most of the complexity is in the software,” and it needs to be further tested.
