New M2 iPad Pro Models Coming in ‘A Matter of Days’

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple is set to announce the new refresh of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in “a matter of days.”

According to Gurman, the new models are codenamed J617 for the 11-inch variant and J620 for the 12.9-inch model.

This will be the first refresh of the iPad Pro models since the second quarter of 2021, when Apple released the M1 version of the iPad Pro in April of that year, in which the 12.9-inch model also featured a mini-LED display.

Gurman said that the refresh will see a bump to its processor, from the M1 to the new M2 Apple silicon chip, which the new MacBook Air features.

The design of the new iPad Pro models will still remain relatively the same with no significant changes, according to Gurman.

Both iPad Pro models are also touted to feature a form of Apple’s MagSafe charging capability.

Moreover, both models will also feature reverse wireless charging, which will allow users to charge their iPhones or AirPods on the back of the new iPad Pro models.

Apple has no plans to announce the new iPad Pro models during an event given that both models will only feature incremental upgrades.

Instead, Apple is expected to make the announcement of the new iPad Pro models along with a refresh to its Mac lineup through press releases and updates to the Apple website.

Meanwhile, Apple is also expected to release the new iPadOS 16, which will feature the highly anticipated Stage Manager later in October.

Stage Manager is Apple’s latest foray into giving the iPad lineup more multitasking features. Stage Manager will allow for a windowing system for iPad apps. (GFB)
