Naga City in Southern Cebu Unveils PHP152.5M Worth of Projects

City of Naga, Cebu (PNA) — The City of Naga in southern Cebu has unveiled some PHP152.5 million worth of projects, including a sports oval that cost PHP68 million to build.

City of Naga Mayor Valdemar M. Chiong said he hopes the Teodoro Mendiola Sr. Sports Field and Oval in Barangay North Poblacion will motivate their constituents to be more health-conscious.

The oval, which sits on a two-hectare property near the Naga Central School, was named after Chiong’s late grandfather, who served as “presidente municipal” now known as mayor of the town of Naga from 1926 to 1929.

Chiong said that with the sports oval, the city is now ready to host the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) in February next year.

He said they already committed to the Department of Education (DepEd) that they will make the venue available for the event.

Aside from the oval, city officials also unveiled the new covered tennis court worth PHP19.5 million.

Chiong said they are also awaiting the completion of the city’s Olympic-size swimming pool, a new volleyball court and basketball court at the sports oval.

He added that they had opened the city’s new PHP65-million public market in Barangay South Poblacion.

The two-story market has 49 stores selling assorted goods, 16 stalls at the meat section, 75 stalls at the fish section and 48 stalls for fruits and vegetables on the ground floor, with other spaces and stalls for rent on the market’s second floor.
