Microsoft Unveils Surface 2, Surface Pro 2 and New Accessories

Microsoft has unveiled the two new Surface model – Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 along with an expanded portfolio of new Surface accessories.

The Surface 2 tablet is a thinner, lighter version of Microsoft’s original Surface RT. It now sports Nvidia’s powerful Tegra 4 processor which can also be found in the Nvidia Shield and the newly announced Nvidia Tegra Note.

The Surface 2 also comes with a 1080p Full-HD ClearType display which boasts improved color reproduction as well as better viewing angles. The USB port has been upgraded to USB 3.0 which means faster speeds and more connectivity to peripherals including the Xbox 360 controller.

Camera resolution has also increased, with a 3.5-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel rear camera, both capable of capturing 1080p video and featuring improved low-light performance, making face-to-face conversations clear.

The Surface 2 will come sporting Windows RT 8.1 in 32GB and 64GB.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 has been designed with two key areas to improve, the performance and the battery life, so you’ll get the latest Intel i5 processor along with an increased battery performance of over 75 percent compared to the original Surface Pro.

It also comes sporting a new 1080p Full-HD ClearType display which means significantly improved color reproduction along with improved sensitivity for use with the Pro Pen.

Storage to choose from: 64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB with 4GB of RAM for the first two and 8GB of RAM available for the larger two.

The Surface Pro 2 comes with Windows 8.1 straight out of the box.

Microsoft also announced a whole range of new accessories to launch alongside the Surface Pro 2 and the new Surface 2 including the revamped Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.

The Touch Cover 2 is thinner and lighter. It now features a backlit keys along with a huge increase in the number of sensors making it even more responsive.

The Type Cover 2 features the same super-thin, lightweight design of the original Type Cover, but it’s now backlit and will be available in a new range of colors.

Finally there’s the Power Cover and the Docking Station for Surface Pro. The Power Cover is essentially the same design as the original Type Cover but with the ability to charge your Surface as well increasing its battery life by up to 50 percent. The Docking Station lets you connect the Surface Pro 2 to HD display running two displays at the same time.
