LG Introduces New Flexible Display Material ‘Strong as Glass’

Published

With how well Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 did in their home country, foldable devices might not be so niched in the upcoming years, and LG plans to make that a reality with the new material the company just recently developed.

LG Chem has created a new material that consists of Polyester (PET) film coated on both sides to prevent future damages on devices upon impact. The company has claimed that this new type of cover window is as strong and hard as glass.

‘Real Folding Window’ is what the company calls the new material that is designed to be folded both outwards and inwards unlike the brand’s other current counterparts that only bends in one direction. Another trait of the material is that it also has a thinner than tempered glass and can be folded over 200,000 times.

Despite this development, the company still has plans to further expand the material, one that does not require PET film at all. No announcement on any model devices that will be carrying out the Real Folding Window material but LG Chem plans to start mass production in 2022.
