London — Huawei today launched a 2Tbps router line card on its NE5000E Core Router at Huawei IP GALA 2015. The new line card provides higher port density and meets carriers’ requirements for backbone networks in the ultra-broadband era and further consolidates Huawei’s leadership in the high-end router field.

The rapid adoption of intelligent terminals and the evolution of network business models, mobile broadband, high definition (HD) videos, and cloud services pose challenges to carrier’s backbone networks. Carriers urgently need to improve the bearing capability of backbone networks to facilitate the development of ultra-wideband services.

The 2Tbps router line card can support high density 100GE, 40GE and 10GE. With the new line card, NE5000E delivers superior performance – 32Tbps per chassis, while the power consumption is as low as 0.8W/G, which helps to dramatically save operational costs. Also, the NE5000E is a unique platform in the industry as it supports upgrades from 400G to 2T per slot to protect customer’s investment. With a programmable chipset and elastic distributed operation system, the NE5000E fully supports SDN technologies and enables network capability.

“The Huawei 2Tbps router line card meets the requirements for ultra-broadband service deployment and accelerates the industrialization of the high-end router technology,” asserted Gai Gang, president of Huawei Router and Carrier Ethernet Product Line, “We are glad to help carriers build sustainable and efficient networks, overcome the bandwidth challenges brought by cloud applications, and continue to reduce network operation costs.”
