Google Drive Going Dark Soon?

It seems like the highly popular cloud storage service Google Drive will go dark soon – as in dark mode, for its web version so people who are on the dark side can enjoy their favorite cloud storage platform without squinting their eyes.

The report comes from a post from 9to5google, as they’ve received a prompt of having the option to choose a dark mode theme. Unfortunately, the website also reported that only one of their multiple Google accounts received the prompt, which may mean that the new feature is still not widely rolling out to the public.

Moreover, the initial report also said that while there is a dark mode, it does not fully feature a pure black mode that OLED users usually enjoy, as parts of the UI have a rather grey shade to them.

Additionally, only the file view offers a dark mode.

If you want to try and see if you have the new feature, go to the gear icon in the top-right corner of the web version of Google Drive > Settings > General > Appearance. The new feature is said to not be turned on by default, so you have to do it manually.

This new feature will allow Google Drive to join other Google platforms that have a dark mode, such as Google Keep, GMail, Google Chat, and YouTube, among others. (GFB)
