British Technology Company Dyson Launches in Cebu

‘Design is only truly beautiful when it works properly. People don’t want something that just looks good, it’s got to do a good job and it has to be simple to use.’ — James Dyson

For James Dyson, frustration proved the mother of invention. In 1979, when James bought the then top-of-the-range vacuum cleaners, he became frustrated with how it instantly clogged and began to lose suction. The engineer’s instinct kicked in. He ripped open the bag and noticed a layer of dust inside, clogging the pores. A fundamental flaw with vacuum technology undetected and unchallenged for almost 100 years. James became determined to develop a better vacuum cleaner that worked properly.

In 1993 James launched the first bagless vacuum cleaner. It was the result of 5,127 prototypes and 15 years of frustration and perseverance. An unconventional idea that proved the right place to start. 18 months after the launch it became the bestselling vacuum in the U.K.

From one inventor, the Dyson ranks have swelled to 6,000 people. And Dyson is now more than just vacuum cleaners. We’ve created our own motor, engineered cordless machines and introduced bladeless fans. Dyson machines are available in 75 countries worldwide. Dyson remains the market-leader in the UK, and also in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Western Europe, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. Now Dyson launches in Cebu.

“We know there’s a real appetite for exceptional technology across the Philippines,” says James Dyson. “Smaller, high performance machines are the future. And we have seen that people appreciate the problem-solving nature of Dyson technology. We’re taking things one step at a time; we started in Manila and are now launching in Cebu.’

Machines in the line-up include:

Dyson DC74 or Dyson Fluffy, as it is affectionately known – the vacuum cleaner which is engineered to tackle and remove 98 percent of dust and debris on hard floors without leaving a scratch behind. Sitting at the core of Dyson Fluffy is the Dyson digital motor V6. Spinning at 110,000RPM – five times faster than a Formula 1 car engine – the Dyson digital motor V6 gives this vacuum cleaner the most powerful suction of any cordless vacuum. Suction starts strong and stays consistent due to the fade-free nickel manganese cobalt battery technology and patented cyclone technology, offering twenty minutes of constant suction. Combined with Dyson’s patented 2 Tier Radial™ cyclone technology – which flings dust out of the air and into the bin, separating out even microscopic particles – Dyson Fluffy offers the power of a full-size vacuum cleaner.

Dyson Cool. Six years ago, inventor James Dyson bid farewell to the blade by inventing the world’s first bladeless fan. Previously, fans relied on the spinning blades to cool, but blades chop the air before it hits you. Dyson’s Air Multiplier™ technology accelerates air through an annular aperture to create a jet of air, which passes over an airfoil-shaped ramp. What you get is a smooth, high-velocity airflow, less the unsightly blades which can pose a risk to curious young children.

Kenneth Cobonpue– globally renowned, multi-awarded furniture designer whose roster of clientele includes Brad Pitt and royalty—is impressed. He refers to Dyson Cool fans as “marvels of form and function.” Says Cobonpue: “Dyson has done what is perhaps the most difficult thing for engineers to do: to improve a reliable design that has worked for decades.”
