A showcase of the latest Science and Technology innovations in Region 1 occupies this city’s Imelda Cultural Center as it hosts this year the final leg of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) caravan slated on December 14-16.

Led by city Mayor Albert Chua and representatives of the DOST Region 1, the exhibit is one of the highlights of the three-day event which aims to bring in science and technology closer to the grassroots level.

Dubbed “Juan Science, One Nation, One Batac” as this year’s theme of the celebration, Mariano Marcos State University president Prima Franco lauded Batac City’s efforts to promote Science and Technology as a key player in economic development.

Known as the “Home of great leaders”, Batac City is also developing itself as a “Science City” with the all out support of various national government agencies to develop and provide new opportunities to its people.

Open to all interest groups and individuals such as farmers, small and medium entrepreneurs, students and other visitors, various technology forums, livelihood trainings, technology demonstrations, Science film viewing and other DOST services are offered.

Technology forums include familiarization of stakeholders about the Project NOAH, DOST-PAGASA services, technology for education and use of public Wi-Fi, urban farming featuring hydroponics and aquaponics, bioethanol, black garlic and providing waste water treatment solutions to micro, small and medium entrepreneurs.

Simple livelihood trainings on handmade paper making, vinegar making, baking 101, meat processing, detergent soap making, local fruit wine making and free calibration services are also open to interested groups or individuals.

For students, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Elementary School also hosts Science film viewing, Science magic, Science Centrum and RxBox demonstration including a poster-making contest.

With a fast phase environment and the advancement of technology, the Batac City mayor has urged authorities in the field of Science and Technology to speed up their efforts to be at par with world class standards. (PNA)LAP/LGA/EDS
