UK’s Vax Aid to PH Now Numbers 5.6M, Testament to ‘Enduring Support’

United Kingdom (UK) by Saturday will have donated a total of 5.6 million AstraZeneca vaccines to the Philippines to aid in the against the COVID-19 pandemic, a sign of UK’s “enduring support” to the country, according to Ambassador Laure Beaufils.

Beaufils together with vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. welcomed the arrival of 288,000 AstraZeneca doses which arrived in advance and is part of the 5.2 million doses that the Philippines will receive by Saturday.

Apart from the said vaccines, UK has already donated 414,040 vaccines to the country in August.

Beaufils added that the UK working with the Philippines on various initiatives such as on education along with policy exchanges that will improve both countries’ COVID-19 response.

Furthermore, Galvez Jr. said that the donation of vaccines by UK was not at the request of the Philippines, but was an initiative of UK. He added that the donation is timely as the Philippines will hold a three-day national vaccination drive which aims to vaccinate 15 million individuals around the country. (GFB)
