Seniors, PWDs to Receive Cash Aid

Members of the Senior Citizens and the Persons With Disabilities or PWDs from the 80 barangays comprising this city will get their financial assistance this week.

The city government here led by Mayor Michael Rama is preparing for the financial assistance to the more than 60,000 qualified Elderly to be distributed tomorrow October 27, 2015 Tuesday and for the more than 10,000 PWDs on October 29 Thursday.

In an interview with the BARUGG News, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) head Domingo Chavez shared that the city’s elderly will get P2,000 each as the fifth tranche for their P12,000 annual financial assistance, adding the the remaining P3,000 will be given on December this year for the Christmas celebration.

The OSCA head further reiterated that they will still follow the same system in the previous distribution citing that it will still be done in the respective Barangay Hall, Sports Complex and other convenient designated places in the respective barangays from 8 o’clock in the morning until 12 noon.

He said that no authorization letters will be honored and the disbursing officers coming from the different departments of the city will hand personally to the bedridden beneficiary. He added that they coordinated with the village officials and workers along with the personnel from the Cebu City Police Office to ensure safety and security.

Meanwhile, on October 29 Thursday, the city’s PWDs will each receive P1,000 as fourth tranche of the P5,000 annual financial assistance.

Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) assistant head Lucia Mahusay in an interview with the BARUGG News underscored that they will also follow the same system of distribution with that of the city’s Elderly.

Mahusay reiterated that the financial assistance distribution for PWDs will be conducted in their respective barangays from 8AM to 12 Noon. She said the the remaining P2,000 will be distributed in December this year.

Moreover, the Elderly and the PWDs who cannot claim on the day of the distribution they will be given 15 days as grace period to claim it in the Cash Disbursement Division in the City Treasurer’s Office, in Cebu City Hall. If the beneficiaries still cannot claim their cash aid after the grace period the money will be reverted back to the city’s coffers. (Cebu City Public Information Office PIO/Greggy Jiggs P. Senados)
