Iloilo City (PNA) — The K to 12 Regional Dialogue that aims to ease the public’s apprehension on the government’s readiness to fully implement the program was held in Iloilo on Oct. 27 at the Rose Memorial Auditorium of the Central University of the Philippines(CPU).

Terese Ray Anne Aquino, one of the speakers in the dialogue, said that the dialogue encouraged private schools to help the government in decongesting the over population in public schools.

“Private schools are encouraged to open a senior high school and to apply for senior high school voucher program,” Aquino said.

Meanwhile, executive director Marjorie Mendenilla of the Technical Vocational Schools and Associations of the Philippines Inc. (TEVSAPHIL) said that there was a need of cooperation from the public and private schools to help lessen the problems on lacking classrooms and teachers for senior high school students.

The regional dialogue was spearheaded by the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) and Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) with support from the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) and Central Philippine University (CPU).

Teachers, parents and students from Western Visayas attended the dialogue and discussed their concerns on the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program of the Department of Education (DepEd) especially the Senior High School (SHS) that will roll out in 2016.

The dialogue has offered clear guidelines for parents and students on how to adapt to the new educational system.

The dialogue has also served as an information drive on offered programs and all viable solutions to transitional issues to Parents-Teachers Associations, faculty and staff of the represented schools.

CPU is one of the universities that is K to 12 ready institution in Iloilo that offers academic tracks for SHS. (PNA) RMA/LOR/AJP/CBFERRER/CBF
