The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 said the team of Chinese investigators who arrived in Cebu Monday cannot conduct their own investigation on the Oct. 21 fatal shooting of two Chinese consular officials inside a restaurant in Cebu City.

Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Bañas, PRO 7 director, said the team requested from him the results of the investigation by the local police.

“I still have to get clearance from the higher headquarters,” he said.

Banas said more than 10 members of the investigating and forensic team came from the Chinese Ministry of Public Safety.

Li Qingliang allegedly shot Chinese Consulate in Cebu finance officer Hui Li in the head, Deputy Consul General Sun Shuan in the neck and Consul General Song Ronghua’s hand inside the Lighthouse Restaurant on Gen. Maxilom Ave. in Cebu City on Oct. 21.

Li is the husband of Gou Jing, the first secretary consul of the Chinese Consular Office in Cebu.

Li and Gou claimed full diplomatic immunity and were flown back to Xiamen from Mactan Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City on the night of Oct. 23.

The bodies of Hui and Sun were also flown to China on Oct. 25. (PNA) RMA/EB/EDS
