To further enhance the capability and quality of training of crime investigators, the Philippine National Police through its Directorate for investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) office launched on Tuesday the Crime Scene Investigation Plaza.

PNP Chief, Police Director General Ricardo C. Marquez and Police Director Benjamin Magalong, DIDM Director led the inauguration of the Crime Scene Investigation Plaza located at the roof top of the School for Investigation and Detective Development (SIDD) Building.

According to PNP Spokesperson Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, the Crime Scene Investigation Plaza was patterned after FBI’s ‘Hogan’s Alley’. It recreated replicas of establishments commonly found in a town plaza, like an office, a bank, a restaurant, a mini-mart, a resto-bar and a police station.

Mayor said the plaza would be utilized as a training in a laboratory setting controlled facility, where various crime scenarios would be demonstrated through simulation exercises to be performed by the students under the supervision of SOCO experts from the Crime Laboratory as instructors/facilitators and students of both the Criminal Investigation Course (CIC) and Investigation Officer’s Basic Course (IOBC) as part of the investigative competency training.

During the conduct of the Integrated Exercises of the Crime Scene Investigation Protocol Module of the two courses, the investigative skills and techniques in securing and proper ways of handling and gathering pieces of evidence learned by the participants inside the classroom would be showcased.

The Crime Scene Plaza is DIDM’s contribution to ensure the best quality of training on crime scene investigation that will benefit not only the current members of PNP investigators but more so to those who dream of becoming a detective in the future.

The construction of the plaza began in October 2013 and approved by then Chief PNP, Police Director General Raul M. Bacalzo Jr., and was completed in February 2015 under the close supervision of the PNP Engineering Service. (PNA) RMA/CLTC
