(PNA) – The resignation of Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jericho Petilla should not affect the public service specifically in the energy sector, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma said on Wednesday.

”There should be continuity in the leadership of the Department of Energy ,” Coloma said in a press briefing in Malacanang on Wednesday.

”The government is assuring that there will be no delay in the delivery of basic services specially the continues supply of energy during the summer months,” he added.

Coloma said President Aquino has yet to act on the reported resignation of Petilla.

”President Aquino has tackled that yesterday and explained the situation. I cannot remember about discussion whether it was definite leave,” Coloma said.

”The important announcement of the president yesterday was his assurance that there would be smooth transition on the position of the DOE Secretary,” Coloma told the media.

Coloma said the President explained that it is difficult to find qualified and dedicated public servants.

Petilla’s resignation came a week after Bureau of Customs (BOC) commissioner John Sevilla quit allegedly “due to political pressure”.

Sevilla was replaced by former BOC commissioner Bert Lina. (PNA) CTB/JFM
