No Classes in Pangasinan, Dagupan City on Tuesday

Dagupan City (PNA) — Classes are suspended in all levels in both public and private schools in Pangasinan province Tuesday (Oct. 20) due to the effects of typhoon “Lando” (international name: Koppu), as possible flooding is still expected in some towns.

In an order, Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. said work suspension in government offices are left to the discretion of their respective administrators.

For her part, Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez suspended classes to ensure safety of the students and teachers and cited the latest weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) that heavy rains will persist until today.

She also said power has yet to be restored in some barangays in the city. Clearing operations in the barangays are also ongoing.

Electricity has so far been restored by the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) in some areas although it is still trying to fix the 30 electric poles that were downed on Monday along the Jose R. De Venecia Expressway Extension, a four-kilometer diversion that had yet to be closed because of the emergency situation.

Meanwhile, the city council of San Carlos City already passed a resolution declaring a state of calamity, ahead of the declaration yet to be made by the provincial board.

Fernandez also called on the the city council to approve her recommendation to declare Dagupan City under state of calamity. (PNA) JMC/LVM/LVMICUA/RMA
