Mingaw Ang Pasko Human Sa Katalagman

The idea of having Christmas without a Christmas party is ideal and merits the approval of all sound thinking Filipinos. Gov. Jun Davide of the Cebu Provincial Capitol and City Councilor Alvin Dizon who are reported to spearhead that idea ought to be given our sincere thanks because they have come up with a decision considered to be most fitting and proper to be done if we are to think about the enormous devastation brought by the strong earthquake of Oct. 15 which claimed more than 200 lives with severe damage to properties and the strongest typhoon Yolanda to ever hit our country claiming more than 5,000 lives with untold miseries as a result of what we call a “double whammy” effect of those two natural calamities.

To think of Christmas celebration while a big number of our fellowmen are still trying to rebuild their lives from utter miseries is to become callous, deaf and insensitive to what befall to most of our fellowmen largely affected by those twin calamities. Employees belonging to the Capitol and the City Hall are fortunate enough because they still have their jobs to turn to. But for most of those who suffered untold miseries whose means of livelihood have been greatly and adversely affected, any plan to help them by rendering personal sacrifices without holding Christmas parties for the Capitol and the City Hall will go a long way into proving that these employees also deserve the admiration and praise from the public for sharing a little from their present employment perks. Anyway, this is a rare moment for them to share with the sufferings of our less fortunate brothers by opting to forego an expensive Christmas Party while most of them (the earthquake and typhoon victims) are crying for help.
