Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan shares a light moment with local vendors and customers at the Lapu-Lapu City Public Market as he oversees the rollout QR-Ph within the community.

Maya, the top digital bank and money app in the country, continues to lead the way in the implementation of the national QR standard for retail payments in Cebu. Recently, the company launched Paleng-QR Ph in Lapu-Lapu City, enabling QR-based transactions among vendors within public markets, local transportation, and other micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In a ceremony held at the Lapu-Lapu Public Market on February 17, the initiative was formally launched by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and local officials. Lapu-Lapu City is the latest addition to the list of cities transforming their public markets into Paleng-QR Ph, following the launches in Baguio City, Davao City, Tagbilaran City, and Naga City.

Maya has been at the forefront of the fintech and banking sector in the country’s adoption of the QR standard for retail payments. It was the first to deploy the QR Ph for Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Payment and Peer-to-Merchant (P2M) Payment. Maya has over 800,000 QR Ph-enabled Maya merchant touchpoints present in 96% of cities and municipalities across the Philippines.

Consumers can enjoy the benefits of QR Ph through Maya’s omnichannel touchpoints. Even non-Maya users can transact with merchants via Static Maya QR displayed at stores, Maya Terminal point-of-sale devices, and online checkout with Pay with Maya. More than 55 million Maya customers enjoy seamless transactions on Maya’s consumer platforms, designed to work seamlessly with other QR Ph-participating financial institutions.

Maya’s efforts to digitize public markets have made it the growth partner of choice for various Philippine businesses, including pharmacies, transportation, travel, retail stores, public utilities, food, hospitals, service providers, and schools.
