Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale has opposed the plan of the Department of Health (DOH) to distribute condoms in schools to help prevent the spread of human immunodeficiency virus-acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV-Aids) in the country.

Magpale, who co-chairs the Cebu Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children (PCWC), said she was worried this would lead to proscuity.

“I am worried that it would encourage promiscuity,” she said.

Magpale said she hopes the DOH plan to distribute condom to students will not push through.

It will make kids even more curious,” she said, quoting the statement of the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

The DOH announced it will distribute condoms to students as a last recourse to prevent them from contracting HIV-AIDS.

The DOH has noted an increase in HIV among the youth.

Magpale said the PCWC may pass a resolution appealing to DOH to defer the distribution of condoms. (PNA)LAP/EB/EDS
