Joy vs. Happiness

Published

on

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11

“My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered.” Psalm 71:23

Joy can only be gotten in God. Nowhere else can we get it. Because “joy” is one of the “fruits of the Spirit” (Spirit of God) when we’ve received the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives and become children of God. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…” Galatians 5:22. Happiness, on the other hand, is what we feel when something good happens to our lives and fades away when things go not our way. Joy is constant while happiness is inconstant. Joy is eternal while happiness is temporal. The former runs deep while the latter varies when emotions go up and down.

” Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return to Jerusalem, singing songs of everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear. and they will overcome with joy and gladness.” Isaiah 51:11
