Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Daughter Now a Licensed Electrical Engineer

About six months ago, the Garay Family of Barangay Can-upao, Jagna, Bohol won the national search of Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya, the family was not only happy for winning the search but was also elated to get their cash prize as it would significantly help their eldest daughter Ivy pushed through with her review. Ivy, at the time of the awarding, was a graduating student at Bohol Island State University taking up electrical engineering.

The couple Vicente and Marissa earlier shared that most of their resources were depleted as they send all of their children to school and Ivy’s licensure examination review would be an additional burden to them as it will be costly.

“We were worried where to get the money for Ivy’s review because it’s quite expensive but we always believe that God will always provide,” said Marissa.

True enough, the couple’s strong faith got an answer according to Marissa because they topped the provincial and regional search that automatically made them as a national finalist and eventually winning the national search.

The Garays total winnings from the provincial, regional and national search allowed the family to buy a second hand TV and financed Ivy’s six-month review in Cebu City, boarding house dues and weekly allowances.

Vicente recalled that typhoon Queenie did not only damaged their house in 2014, it also destroyed their old TV unit. “My children had long requested for a TV not necessarily new but a functional one because watching TV is one of their way to bond and learn.”

Meanwhile, Ivy for her part is all smiles while sharing her recent success after passing the April 2017 licensure examination for Electrical Engineers.

Ivy learned about the results through a friend via text message. “I was at home when I got the text, it did not immediately sink in, I repeatedly asked her if it was really true so she sends me a screenshot of the result and right there I confirmed it that I pass the board exam.”

“I immediately informed my parents about the good news, and then they took turn in viewing the screenshot, first it was my mother and then my father. What was so funny was that they closed the door and the windows of our house before looking at the results,” Ivy shared while laughing.

She added that both her parents had an extremely low voice while viewing the results, they were afraid that their reaction might elicit negative feedback from our neighbors since our house is located beside the interior coastal road. They don’t want to be branded as boastful.

Ivy remembered receiving a warm hug of congratulations from her parents and siblings because again another family prayer was answered.

She even shared that the day she learned about the result was the day she find it the hardest to sleep, “I was too scared that it was all a good dream,” Ivy reminisce.

“I can still remember how my classmates and I spent sleepless nights during the review and how scared I was to get sick,” she added.

On the day of the examination, I was grateful that our review paid off as I was able to answer most of the questions although the professional subjects were quite challenging and technical as it was based on field experiences, she further shared.

Ivy is now planning to apply in Bohol Electric Cooperative where she had her internship.
