CBM 2017 in its Annual Tourism Summit

Among the activities of Cebu Business Month 2017 was the annual Tourism Summit at Cebu City Marriott Hotel last June 16.

The chamber gathered various tourism industry stakeholders in a one-day forum aimed to help sustain the economic growth of tourism sector.

The CBM 2017: Tourism Summit has been a conducive convention where distinguished group of speakers who knowledgeably shared tourism-related topics such as ways on how to attain a sustainable tourism.

“In today’s Tourism Summit, let’s all boost our connection and create new linkages with and among the key players in the global market place and enable ourselves to work together in cementing coopetition among each other,” CBM 2017 Overall Chairman Charles Kenneth Co remarks.

In his welcoming remarks, CBM 2017 Tourism Committee Chairman Edwin Ortiz brought up the peace and order crisis in Mindanao that has created “revenue losses, decrease in airline passengers, decrease in tourist’s arrivals” in region and in the country as a whole.

Ortiz then urged everyone to be united and more resilient amidst all these atrocities that tears us down.

Department of Tourism Undersecretary Alma Rita D. Jimenez stood as the keynote speaker on behalf of Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo as she has urgent matters to attend to.

DOT Undersecretary Alma Rita D. Jimenez expressed her appreciation on the event as it shows a very forward-looking business community of Cebu, ready, and very much able to step up to the challenge of forging new pathways in the province’s development.

She also added that National Tourism Sector Strategy are now put in good place with the approval of National Tourism Development Plan 2017 to 2022 by President Rodrigo Duterte.

It was indeed a gathering that envisaged tourism in the country to go from strength to strength and consistently optimize its contribution to the growth of economy.
