Philippine Red Cross (PRC) chairman Richard Gordon will be in Cebu tomorrow, November 12, to inaugurate a blood station and turn over completed recovery projects for Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) beneficiaries.

The Red Cross chairman will lead the inauguration of a blood facility in Mandaue in the morning and the turnover of various projects under the Typhoon Haiyan Operation of the Red Cross in Bogo City in the afternoon.

Gordon will be joined by the Interim Board of Directors of the League of Municipal Mayors in Cebu for the blood facility inauguration, along with other officials and staff of the PRC.

“This new blood facility is part of the realization of our dream to set up a blood facility in every corner of the country to make life saving blood available to everyone wherever and whenever they need it,” said Gordon.

The new blood facility will serve the estimated 400,000 population of Mandaue as well as those in the northern parts of Cebu and neighboring provinces, making safe and quality blood and blood products readily available to thousands of Cebuanos.

After the blood facility inauguration, Gordon and party will proceed to Bogo City for the grand ceremonial turnover of PRC and Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS)-funded programs for Typhoon Yolanda beneficiaries in Cebu.

PRC and JRCS supported projects in Cebu include provision of shelter, livelihood assistance, rehabilitation of health facilities and construction and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities that were affected by typhoon Yolanda back in 2013.

The whole day Cebu activities of the Red Cross are part of the commemoration of the third year anniversary of Typhoon Yolanda.
