A 5-kilometer concrete paved diversion road project that will address traffic congestion in Baybay City, Leyte has been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and is set to be inaugurated anytime.

“Leyteños will soon be reaping the benefits of Baybay Diversion Road as it is now serviceable to motoring public,” said DPWH Secretary Rogelio L. Singson.

Secretary Singson said the construction of the P395 million Baybay Diversion Road will serve as a trunk line of the road network of Baybay City from Maasin City to Tacloban and Ormoc City.

The diversion road can be used to transport farm produce to the local markets even outside Leyte as it links to Roro Port of Baybay City.

Started in 2013, Baybay Diversion Road project involves the roadway opening and concrete paving of a 5,154 meter road network with 151-meter pre-stressed concrete girder bridge component, slope protection, provision of embankment protection structures, informative signs, and paving of shoulders.

The road starts from junction of Ormoc-Baybay Road in Barangay Candadam, traversing Barangays Cogon and Can-ipa, crossing the Tacloban-Baybay South Road in Barangay Gaas and ends at junction Baybay-Maasin Road in Barangay Hipusngo.

Baybay Diversion Road is one of the priority projects of DPWH Region 8 identified by the Regional Development Council (DPWH).
