The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will discuss the May 2016 national and local elections during their plenary assembly this week in Cebu City.

According to CBCP president Archbishop Socrates Villegas, the plenary assembly, the Church’s highest governing body, will include in its discussions the forthcoming elections.

“Yes, we will discuss the May polls,” he said.

The Lingayen-Dagupan prelate added that they are set to issue another voter’s guide for the public before the holding of the general elections.

Last month, Villegas issued a statement saying that voters should not support candidates who are pushing for measures that are against Church moral doctrines.

Aside from social issues, the bishops will discuss about internal and church matters.

The biannual meeting is being held every January and July.

The CBCP usually issues a collective statement on pastoral and social issues after their plenary assembly.

The meeting will be held from Jan. 22 to 24 in Cebu City. (PNA) SCS/FGP/EDS
