Three years after Saint Pedro Calungsod was canonized in Oct. 21, 2012, Asturias town in Cebu held a mass wedding as tribute to the second Filipino saint.

Through the office of Asturias Vice Mayor Joel Dumdum, the municipality held a Kasalan ng Bayan 2015.

At least 22 newly wed couples were blessed by Msgr. Emilio Bataclan in Señor San Roque de Montpellier Church.

In his homily, Bataclan said that the couples should receive the sacrament of matrimony in which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership for life.

After 20 years of living together, Adelin Nemenso, 40, and Manuel Comedia, 43, were officially married and blessed with the sacrament of matrimony.

“Way kabutangan ang among kalipay. Mura mi ug mga batan-on pa sad nga gikasal. Salamat gyud sa nag sponsor labi na sa (We’re so overwhelmed and we feel like we’re young newly-weds. Thank you to the sponsors, especially to) vice mayor, Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.”

The couple started their relationship in 1995. They are blessed with ten children. Manuel works in a prawn farm while Adelin manages the household.

“Maglisod man gud mi og pakasal sauna kay pait ug wala pod me kwarta ikagasto, maayo na lang nakaapil me aning libre nga kasal (It’s not easy to get married due to financial problems and we’re so thankful to be part of this mass wedding),” Manuel said.

Adelin recalled that it was her happiest moment in life.

“Wala ko mobalibad sa pag hangyo sa akong bana tungod kay mao gyud ni ako pangandoy nga makasal mi (It’s my dream to get married so I didn’t refuse my husband’s plan to have us married).”

The mass wedding was offered for free, including the certificates and couple’s registration while the Cebu Provincial Government paid for the reception and distributed gifts for the newly married couples.

Davide, Magpale and Provincial Board Member Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez graced the mass wedding ceremonies.
