Pokémon Go May Possibly Have Full Access To Your Gmail
When Pokémon Go went out in the market, users had to use their Gmail accounts to access the game if they did not have a pokemon.com username. Unfortunately, when playing in an iPhone, logging in may have given full access of that Gmail account and all data in to to Niantic, the creator of Pokémon Go.
This failure in the app was first reported by RedOwl’s Adam Reeve after he discovered the app had been granted full permission to his Google account. This can allow Pokémon Go to read all of your email, send an email as the user, look into the search history and access all of your data.
“No other Google account information is or has been accessed or collected. Once we became aware of this error, we began working on a client-side fix to request permission for only basic Google profile information, in line with the data that we actually access,” said Niantic spokesperson Sibel Sunar.
Sunar said Google will soon fix the glitch and modify permission to only request basic profile data.
The issue has only been reported for the iPhone app edition of Pokémon Go, and only for some iOS users.
