Threads Introduces New Search Filters, Allowing Users to Refine Results by Date and Profile
Threads, Meta’s microblogging platform, is rolling out a highly anticipated update to its search functionality, enabling users to filter posts by date range and profile.
This new update will be available globally over the next few weeks, bringing much-needed improvements to the platform’s basic keyword search feature.
This comes as Threads users could only perform keyword searches with “Top” and “Recent” sorting options. However, the updated search introduces a settings icon within the search bar. By tapping on it, users can now access filters for “After date,” “Before date,” and “From profile,” allowing for more precise results.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed the rollout, which aligns with Meta’s ongoing efforts to upgrade Threads’ functionality. “We’re testing new filters and improvements to make search more useful,” Mosseri announced earlier this week.
This move comes as Threads faces increasing competition from platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky, both of which already offer advanced search capabilities. While Threads’ new features still lag behind its rivals, the update marks significant progress in Meta’s attempt to close the gap.
The introduction of search filters is just one of several recent updates aimed at enhancing Threads. Meta has also implemented custom following feeds and tweaks to the For You feed algorithm, prioritizing posts from followed accounts.
Moreover, Mark Zuckerberg announced a test feature that allows some users to default to their Following feed instead of the algorithm-based For You feed. (GFB)
