WhatsApp New Dark Mode, Sidebar, and Username Features in Development
WhatsApp Web is slated to receive new features aimed at upgrading its privacy features and improving the overall user experience.
This comes as according to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the popular messaging platform is set to introduce a revamped dark mode, a new sidebar, and the much-anticipated ability to create and modify usernames directly from the web client, bridging the functionality gap between its web version and the feature-rich mobile and desktop applications.
A redesigned dark mode is in development, with changes to the background color to align with the aesthetics of the dark theme, contributing to reduced eye strain.
Moreover, the update also includes a new sidebar that shifts the ‘Communities,’ ‘Status,’ ‘Channels,’ and ‘New Chat’ buttons to the left of the browser window, aiming to facilitate easy tab-switching for users.
WhatsApp is also extending the username feature, allowing users to create and modify their usernames directly from the web client. This move intends to eliminate the need for sharing phone numbers.
The reported features are currently under development and accessible to users on the beta version of WhatsApp. The developers plan to roll out these updates in a future version of the messaging platform.
In recent days, WhatsApp has introduced additional features such as message pinning, checking user status from the chat window, and a new calendar search option, showcasing a continuous effort to enhance the platform. (GFB)
