LANDBANK Foundation Empowers Farmers with Financial Literacy and Natural Farming Training in Lake Sebu

The Land Bank of the Philippines Foundation (LANDBANK) recently conducted training on financial literacy and natural farming in Lake Sebu on January 20, 2023. The training was organized in partnership with the Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc. (HCCCI) and the local government of Lake Sebu.

The purpose of the training was to enhance the technical and livelihood skills of farmers, fishers, small and medium entrepreneurs, and local government employees in the area. The training was observed by LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo, along with Lake Sebu Mayor Floro S. Gandam, HCCCI Chairman Nathaniel S. Caballero, HCCCI President Marivet S. Caballero, and other senior executives from LANDBANK and the Countryside Development Foundation, Inc. (LCDFI).

“We are committed to advancing financial inclusion and supporting the agriculture sector,” said President Borromeo. “LANDBANK provides accessible credit and innovative capacity-building interventions to our partners to help spur sustainable development in local communities.”

The one-day training was attended by farmer organizations including the Lake Sebu Vegetable Association, Lake Sebu Indigenous Women and Farmers Association, and the MNLF Luhib Lake Sebu Coconut Farmers Organization. Since July 2022, the LCDFI has conducted 32 training sessions benefiting 6,000 farmers and fishers from Lake Sebu and 300,300 participants nationwide from 196 unbanked municipalities in 53 provinces from July 2020 to December 2022.

As a non-stock, non-profit foundation of LANDBANK, the LCDFI serves as the bank’s training arm, strengthening cooperatives and assisting farmers and fishers in their development. The recent training in Lake Sebu is a testament to LANDBANK’s commitment to promoting financial literacy and supporting the agriculture sector.
