Gilas Pilipinas Changes Head Coaches for Next FIBA World Cup Qualifying Window

Published

Gilas Pilipinas will once again change head coaches as consultant Nenad Vucinic will now call the shots for the third window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers to be held in Auckland, New Zealand and Pasay City.

The latest coaching change for Gilas Pilipinas was confirmed by team manager Butch Antonio Thursday, June 2.

This also comes as the Chot Reyes-led Gilas Pilipinas failed to win the gold medal in the recently concluded 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam in a shocking 81-85 loss against Indonesia.

The gold medal would have been Philippines’ 14th-straight gold medal for the men’s basketball event in the SEA Games.

Moreover, Reyes is set to focus on his Philippine Basketball Association team as Talk ‘N Text begins its title defense in the Philippine Cup.

Meanwhile, Vucinic, who has been Reyes’ assistant coach since February, will now lead a Gilas team set to take on New Zealand on June 30, a team he coached from 2006 to 2014.

Gilas Pilipinas will also host India on July 3 at Pasay City.

As Gilas Pilipinas changes coaches frequently, will offensive and defensive principles, and culture be set for the men’s national basketball team? (GFB)
