6.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits off Ogasawara Islands, No Tsunami Warning Issued

Tokyo (PNA/Xinhua) — A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit off west coast of Ogasawara islands on Tuesday, about 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo at about 21:19 p.m. local time (1219 GMT), the Japanese meteorological Agency said.

The epicenter was initially detected at 27.7 degrees north latitude and 140.3 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 480 km, said the agency.

No tsunami warnings have been issued by the agency and nor immediate injuries and damage reported.

The 6.9 magnitude quake was registered at 4 of Japan’s seismic scale of 7 in Ogasawara Islands. (PNA/Xinhua) LAP/EDS
