130 Kids in Sibonga, San Fernando Receive Early Christmas Gifts

No words can express how happy the children were when they received their gifts during the gift-giving activity in the six barangays of the municipalities of Sibonga and San Fernando last Dec. 16.

Around 130 children received assorted toys such as dolls, cars, balls and teddy bears in the remote mountain barangays of the said municipalities.

The activity is part of the “Pasko sa Daycare” program that was initiated by Jobel Angan-Davide wife of Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PWSDO).

PSWDO staff member Sharlene Caballero and Evonnie Natartez started the distribution last week in the northern part of Cebu.

“Dako og kalipay nga natagaan sila bisan bukid ni amoa naapil me sa grasya nga programa sa asawa sa gobernador (The children were so happy to be part of the program of Mrs. Davide, especially when we are located in the mountains),” said Barangay Guimbangco-an, Sibonga Daycare Worker Jo Christine Nacua.

Barangay Guimbangco-an Day Care Center, which has 20 pupils, is 45 minutes away from the proper town.

Nacua said that her center has limited number of toys, unlike other daycare centers in the lower barangays. Because of this, she explained, children tend to quarrel.

In San Fernando, a parent was teary-eyed when her son received the Christmas gift.

“Sukad, karon pa jud nahitabo nga nanghatag ug duwaan sa mga day care dinhi sa amo-a, lipay kaayo ko nga nakadawat ako anak ug duwaan (This is the first time that our day care center received toys, My son was very happy when he received his gift),” said Marilyn Flores.

Flores added that the gift-giving activity would help them to lessen their expenses on gifts for Christmas. Whatever they could save they could use it for other Christmas-related expenses.

The gift-giving activity happened through the support and efforts of the Capitol employees who donated gifts and dropped them in designated boxes placed in different parts of the Capitol. (by LEE DELA CERNA)
