Manila (PNA) — Expect light rains over some parts of extreme Northern Luzon on Monday due to the trough of low pressure area, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its Monday forecast, PAGASA said the trough or extended cloudiness of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan group of islands.

PAGASA also said the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have sunny to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the south to southwest will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to occasionally rough.

Winds will be light to moderate coming from the southeast to south over the rest of Luzon and of Visayas and from the east to southeast over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas.

It added most parts of the country will continue to experience warm and humid weather because of a ridge of high pressure area (HPA), which is associated with clear skies,

The HPA, which is the opposite of the low pressure area (LPA), is associated with light winds, less rainclouds, and drier air.

The presence of HPA will bring high temperatures and good weather condition in the coming days as the state weather bureau advised people to wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and drink plenty of water.

Despite a warmer weather, the occurrence of isolated rains will still prevail due to localized thunderstorms expected mostly in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA explained that the convective activity brought about by intense heat triggers the formation of more cumulonimbus clouds or dark clouds associated with thunderstorms that brings rains.

On Sunday, Metro Manila had its highest temperature at 35.0 degrees Celsius recorded around 2 p.m. at the agency’s Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City.

The temperature on Monday in Metro Manila will range 26-35 degrees Celsius while the heat index will be 29-39 degrees Celsius.

The heat index is what the state weather bureau defines as “what the human body perceives.” (PNA) JBP/CLTC/EBP
