The public will experience warm and humid weather due to easterlies or warm air from the east as it continues to be the dominant weather system affecting the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday.

PAGASA weather forecaster Glaiza Escullar said the easterlies now prevail over the eastern section of the country.

She noted the chances of isolated rains are high in the areas located in the eastern section of the country since it is affected by the easterlies.

The easterlies or winds from the east are “warm,” the convective activity brought about by its intense heat triggers the formation of localized thunderstorm clouds.

She added that its “rich in moisture” quality also contribute in the formation of thunderstorm clouds.

With the presence of easterlies, Escullar said forecast on Monday will be cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

She noted the northeast monsoon has weakened due to El Niño phenomenon but expected to be back late Tuesday or Wednesday.

Escullar said the agency has not seen any weather disturbance near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that may develop into tropical cyclone within the next three days.

She said the agency expects zero to one tropical cyclone to affect the country this month.

The first tropical cyclone will be locally named “Ambo”.

In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and coming from the east to northeast over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

The state weather bureau has not issued gale warning as the fisherfolk are now safe to venture into the seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
