The annual Penitential Walk for Jesus Thursday dawn formally served as the opening salvo for the Fiesta Señor.

At 4 am today, catholics and devotees lined up at the procession from Osmeña Blvd to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, where a mass was held as the first day of the nine-day novena masses.

Basilica rector, Fr. Jonas Mijares, officiated the first mass and offered a song.

Meanwhile, a new route will be implemented for the traslacion (the meeting of the Holy Family) in Mandaue City on January 16. Traslacion Committee chairman, Pat Acabodillo, said the image of the Holy Child Jesus will travel from the Basilica to M.J. Cuenco Ave. to Gen. Maxilom Ave. then to Barangay Mabolo and Barangay Subangdako in Mandaue City.

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama will then turn over the image to Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and will bring it to the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Joseph the Worker in Sitio Centro, Mandaue. It will stay there overnight and will be transported to the Ouano Wharf in Barangay Looc for the fluvial procession on January 17.
