Vision in Paintings

Published

on

A visibly handicapped student in one of the universities in Texas, USA, has an unbelievable talent in painting. You heard it right, he’s a painter!

When John Bramblitt was younger, epilepsy took away his vision which led him to be angry at his predicament. Being a bright young man with a lot of ideas, concepts and bits of memory that amount to stories, he aspired to become an author. Since this dream demands a lot of work and reading, this budding author had to find another avenue he could excel at.

Instead of staying mad at his predicament, John resorted to another outlet where he can find himself good at. He thought of painting back in his younger years (before he got blind) under the influence of his mom, but he never thought he could be very good at it. However ever since he lost his sight, he thought of giving painting a try.

Many call his paintings amazing while some say it’s impossible. John paints in shapes and colors, but he couldn’t see his canvass. He couldn’t even distinguish between the color red from blue. From this, he developed a  process that allows him to paint–by touch.

He says that learning how to paint was symbolic because if he hadn’t lost his vision, he wouldn’t have learned to do it. He also said that at first, he didn’t think of showing his paintings to anybody and never he planned to, adding that his intention of it was just something he needed to do as an outlet.

The images that he is able to paint proves that despite being visually impaired, he still has a perception. With his gift, he is still able to see.
