US Gershwin Prize to Honor Singer Billy Joel

Popular singer-songwriter and Grammy-award winner, Billy Joel will receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the US national library said.

Joel, who is famed for the hit tune “New York State of Mind” is the sixth recipient of the prize that honors individuals for lifetime achievement in popular music. The award was named after songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin.

Joel has multiple Grammy wins that include song and album of the year in 1978 for “Just the Way You Are.” He also has a career that spanned 50 years and is one of the most popular recording artists with 33 top-40 hits.
