A United States-based non-profit professional association for women of Philippine ancestry has named eight Cebuanas among the 100 most influential Filipino women in the world.

Filipina Women Network’s (FWN) 100 Most Influential Filipina Women in the World Award recognizes those who are creating an impact in the global arena through leadership, legacy and contributions to society.

The categories in the award, which is now on its eighth year, were divided into eight, namely, behind the scenes leaders, builders, emerging leaders, founders and pioneers, innovators and thought leaders, Nicole, policymakers and visionaries, continuing influences and keepers of the fame.

Melanie Ng, president of Ng Khai Development Corp. and president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), was named as one of 12 Behind the Scenes Leaders awardees.

Stella Bernabe, Manulife Regional Head in Central Visayas, was given the Builders plaque of recognition.

Five other Cebuanas bagged awards for the founders and pioneers category, along with 11 other winners.

They were Lhuillier matriarch, Amparito Lhuillier, who is president of her education foundation; Sun.Star Management President Gina Garcia Atienza; and GCH Holdings Inc. President Janette Nellie Chiu.

Other winners for the founders and pioneers category are PSC Primary Skills Inc. President Paulette Liu and The Chocolate Chamber Founder Raquel Choa.

Switzerland-based Cebuana psychologist and Samahang Pilipina Bern Founder Anny Misa Hefti, who won her first plaque last year under the Builders category, was also given the Continuing Influences award.
