Update: Classes Suspended in Many Areas as TS ‘Egay’ Batters Luzon, Metro Manila

(PNA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) bared on Monday the suspension of classes in many areas of Luzon and Metro Manila due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm “Egay” which remained almost stationary over the Luzon Sea on Monday.

In its Facebook page, DepEd announced the suspension of classes in all levels in the following areas:

Benguet, including Baguio City; San Fernando City, Bauang, and Agoo in La Union province; the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Abra and Cavite; Obando, Bulacan; including the Metro Manila areas of Pateros; Malabon City; Navotas City; Mandaluyong City; Makati City; San Juan City; City of Manila; Cainta, Rizal; and Antipolo City.

Classes from pre-school to high school were also suspended in Ilocos Norte; Alaminos, Pangasinan; Olongapo City; the towns of Calatagan, Balayan, Calaca, and Lemery in Batangas province.

Preschool to high school classes were also suspended in Pasay City; Marikina City; Valenzuela City; Caloocan City; Muntinlupa City; Quezon City; Paranaque City; Pasig City; and the towns of Rodriguez and Taytay in Rizal province.

As of Monday noon, storm warning Signal No. 2 is hoisted over the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, including Calayan and Babuyan group of islands; Apayao; Kalinga; Ilocos Norte; Ilocos Sur; and Abra.

Under Signal No. 1 are the provinces of Pangasinan; Isabela; Benguet; La Union; Mountain Province; and Ifugao.

As of Monday noon, Egay was estimated at 160 kms northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 khp and gustiness of up to 90 kph. (PNA) FFC/LAM
