Travel Agency Group Sees PH Tourism Recovery in Early 2021

Aside from the business industry, tourism was also the one of the worst industries that have been greatly affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, not just in the Philippines but through the entire globe.

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, Local Government Units (LGUs) are now slowly giving priority to their respective tourism programs to recover eventually.

For the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA), tourism might recover in the first quarter of 2021, given that the country flattens the curve, by continuously implementing health and safety protocols despite the easing of restrictions.

PTAA Vice President Angel Lao said that the reopening of major tourist spots in the country contributed a lot in slowly pulling the tourism sector back on its feet. Lao referred to major tourist spots like the beaches in Boracay and other tourist attractions in Baguio, Ilocos Norte and other places.

“With the reopening of the tourism corridor, that’s happening now and up to the holiday,” Lao said.

Although land, air and sea travels are still limited, Lao is optimistic that over time, the number of passengers and tourists will be “promising”. (MLC)
