TESDA Eyes More Scholars in New Tendering System

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) eyes more scholars to take up technical – vocational (tech-voc) courses with the launch of its tendering system for scholarships.

Deputy Director General Diosdado Padilla personally handed the scholarship certificates to some 200 tech-voc schools in Region I during the launch of the new system for Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen town.

Padilla said that with the tendering system, all Technical-Vocational Institutions (TVIs) with registered Tech-Voc Educational Training (TVET) programs can submit their Tender or Form 1 to TESDA offices.

“Magkakaroon ng pantay-pantay na karapatan ang bawat TVI na makabahagi sa scholarship allocation na ipinagkakaloob ng TESDA sa ating mga kababayan,” Padilla said during the launching program on Tuesday.

With the tendering system, barangay captains would lead the listing of their constituents who would want to go into training as scholars and eventually land a livelihood opportunity. Enrolees would then enter in an accredited school of their choice that offers Tech-Voc courses, Padilla said.

An important component of the TWSP is actual employment after the training, which is why it is open to everyone who wish to train and garner employment, he added.

“Sa guidelines ng scholarship, puwede lang makapag-participate muli ang TVI kung makapagbibigay ito ng mataas na antas ng employment,” the official said.

Regional Director Cenon Querubin said about P65 million is allocated for the TWSP scholarships in Region I with 15,000 slots available.

Querubin said the regional performance of TVIs and employment is higher than the national average of 62 percent. (JNPD/VHS/PIA-1,Pangasinan)
