Teradyne Rises New Office Hub in Cebu

Leading Automated Test Equipment company in the world, Teradyne, broke ground on the site of its future new hub last January 9. The new address will be in the Cebu Light Industrial Park (MEPZ 3) in Lapu-lapu City. The three-storey edifice will house the company’s engineering and repair facility, call center and administrative offices.

“It will be a modern architecture that will depict our kind of industry, which is techy yet comfortable,” said Teradyne Cebu site and Operations Manager Jacqueline Briones.

Partnering in the project is Ohmori, a brand under real estate developer Innoland Group. The property where the new office will stand measures 26,000 square meters, 21,000 square meters of that will be allotted for the new Teradyne office. According to Grace Mercado, Ohmori’s Leasing Services general manager, Teradyne will be renting the land for a contract of 10 years, renewable. She also mentioned that the building will be constructed by them under a ‘build-to-suit’ scheme, which allows Teradyne to design their office as they want it to be.

Teradyne has been in the Philippines since 1998, holding office in Mactan Export Processing Zone 2 (MEPZ 2), Cebu. It currently employs a total of 641 employees, majority of them are engineers who are repair technicians. It has a field office in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Briones said that Teradyne’s Philippine hub is the largest outside US; it has a similar facility in Costa Rica. Teradyne is based in Massachussetts, U.S.A. Last 2012, it had a sales of $1.66 billion.

Teradyne is the number one supplier of Automatic Test Equipment to test semiconductors, wireless products, data storage and complex electronic systems, which serve consumer, communications, industrial and government customers. It has three divisions to cater to their clients’ needs namely the Semiconductor Test Division, System Test Group, and the Wireless Test Division. The Semiconductor Test Division supplies semiconductor test equipment for logic, analog, power, mixed-signal and memory technologies. System Test Group on the other hand, serves as the world’s leading original equipment manufacturers, electronics manufacturing services suppliers and hard disk drive makers, while Teradyne’s Wireless Test Division, LitePoint Corporation, is focused on reducing the time to market and cost system level test for wireless products operating on WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and cellular phone networks.

Teradyne delivers test solutions to developers and manufacturers of a broad range of integrated circuits (IC) used in computing, communications, consumer, automotive, identification and internet applications. These are packaged separately or integrated as cells in system-on-a-chip (SOC) devices.

The Teradyne new office is targeted to be completed middle of 2015.
