Telcos Repair of Odette-Ravaged Areas ‘Nearing Completion’

Victims of typhoon Odette’s devastation will feel a huge sigh of relief as telecommunication companies Globe Telecom (Globe) and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) both announce that service restorations on Odette-hit areas are “nearing completion.”

This comes as Globe announced in a service advisory that service in Agusan del Norte, Eastern Samar, and Surigao del Sur have been completed.

Meanwhile, service restoration on other places in the Visayas region are met with challenges due to infrastructure damage and the blockage on roads and collapsed bridges.

Moreover, Globe also has sent a team in Siargao, one of the places hit hardest by Odette, to install equipment for the restoration of mobile services.

Globe is also helping with clearing operations of different local government units (LGUs) along with infrastructure repairs for communication lines in Odette-ravaged areas.

Meanwhile, Smart announced that their service are now 99 percent fixed, and 97 percent of wireless services are now online in Mindanao, which includes communications links located at Misamis Oriental and Surigao del Norte.

Smart also announced that for the Visayas region, 60 percent of fixed services along with 86 percent of wireless services have been restored.

Moreover,Smart added that technical and support teams have been sent to Odette-hit areas from Manila to augment resources on the ground. (GFB)
