Team Cebu City Dance Sport and Cebu PhotoWorks: A Work of Passion

What started as a Passion Project for a few Sports-Dancers in 1998 became confidence-building sports not only for the children or youth but for the photographers as well.

Last October 24, 2015, the Cebu City DanceSport Team Cebu City celebrated with a grand dinner at the Abellana Cebu City Sports Center for the various successes they had for the 19th DSCPI National DanceSport Championship 2015. DTCC won 18 gold medals, 7 silver and 3 bronze in the competition which was a great joy to the founders Edward and Eleanor Hayco.

What started with 3-5 couples who joined competitions with their own money 17 years ago, now dancesport has been adopted by DepEd and it has been taught for free in 80 barangays in Cebu. Due to the shortage of DanceSport teachers, a cascading system for teaching emerged. The founding couple –Edward and Eleanor Hayco- were first taught by a foreign instructor and they in turn trained future dancesport instructors. With the goal to keep children active, physically fit and wise, DTCC has certainly stayed true to its calling.

Along with this, there was a Photo-Contest with the theme “Exhilaration” which expressed fluidity in motion on the dance floor. It exemplifies not just the passion of the dancers but also their emotions. Bagging 3rd prize was Rene M. Ybanez; the 2nd prize went to Roi Anward Abarintos while Francisco Pajares Jr. bagged the first prize.
