Talisay Council’s Majority Bloc Warned of New Rules

Even if they are only four of them in the coming City Council, Talisay City Vice Mayor-elect Romeo Villarante warned the majority bloc that the rules will change when the new administration resumes on July.

Villarante said the opposition councilors, who will compose the majority bloc, should not expect they will get the same privileges like they once enjoyed when the mayor was still theirs. The tide has changed for City Council’s majority bloc when Liberal Party’s Johnny V. Delos Reyes was elected as mayor, topping the giant, first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, the administration’s bet.

Its mayor and vice mayor bets might have been defeated but the administration camp, which will later become an opposition in the coming term, has, however, managed to win seven of its councilors. But Villarante assured he will not let these seven (plus two: representative from the Association of Barangay Councils and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation) play with numbers in the council. Villarante will be joined by three councilors from his camp in the incoming council.

Villarante said that while his party-mates will enjoy committee chairmanships, he could not promise for the majority bloc members. He said this was what happened when they were still in the opposition side, when the administration did not even give one of them a committee, and a quota of workers, of which the then administration councilors were entitled to 20 each.
