To sustain the Provincial Government’s efforts to boost Cebu’s thriving tourism industry, the annual Suroy-Suroy Sugbo kicks-off this year in the south from January 24 to 26.

Provincial Tourism Officer Joselito “Boboi” Costas said that the three-day, two-night package tour highlights the rich culture and history of 13 towns and cities.

“This year’s tour is not just about getting to know the place, but we also want the participants to experience the richness of Cebu’s culture,” Costas said.

Participants get to experience the towns of Argao, Dalaguete, Boljoon, Oslob on the first day where they get to experience first-hand hablon weaving, as well as listen to the recently restored bamboo organ at the Parroquia de San Miguel Archangel Church in Argao.

On the second day, travelers will be welcomed by the hospitality of southwest Cebu towns, specifically Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan, Alegria and Moalboal.

Here, adventure-seekers will be able to feed their thirst for thrill as they trek the Aguinid falls in Samboan and take part in the canyoneering activities in Alegria’s Kanlaob Falls.

On the last day, participants will be able to visit the local churches of Ronda and Barili, while cultural performances await them in the cities of Carcar and Talisay.

Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale, chairman of the committee on tourism and international affairs, is hopeful that the annual activity will continue to encourage local and foreign travelers to embrace the Cebuano culture.

“Suroy-suroy is not just literally a trip to the south, but an experience of what is truly Cebuano. With the digital age, I hope everyone gets to share their experiences online and in this way, help preserve what is truly Cebuano,” Magpale said.
